"Über sieben Brücken musst du gehn" Das Lied von der Rock Gruppe Karat
This phrase translates to "over seven bridges you must go".
<----- Die Brücke als Symbol der Hoffnung und Sehnsucht ------ Why is this so significant? The bridge as it says above is a symbol, one of hope and yearning. This clearly shows how the people of east and west Germany needed badly to unite into one nation again. Vergangenheit – translation: Past; sense of time For example: In der Vergangenheit – ein geteiltes Land , In the past – a divided country. The two Germanys, with two flags, and two different governments. With the Deutsche Wiedervereinigung in October 3rd, 1990 the two countries was truly a thing of the Vergangenheit. Wiedervereinigung- re-unification: Date 3. October, 1990 * Note that in 1989 the borders were opened but Germany was still two seperate countries for almost 1 year* Republikflucht - Escape the GDR without permission, it was very hard to even get permission for business trips or even visits which was even less likely. Flüchtling- To flee the Republic, a person who flees is a refugee or auf Deutsche ein Flüchtling.
